Construction is approaching halfway through H Hotel W39, a 28-story hotel tower at 58 West 39th Street in Midtown. Designed by Peter F. Poon Architects and developed by Wei Hong Hu of H Hotel LLC, the 447-foot-tall structure will produce 65 guest rooms spread over 41,500 square feet along with meeting rooms and a fitness center. City Cross Construction Corp. is the general contractor for the property, which sits on a narrow lot between Fifth and Sixth Avenues, just one block below Bryant Park.
The reinforced concrete superstructure has steadily risen since our last update in early January, and has begun to overhang the parapets of adjacent buildings. The structure will soon be cantilevered over its neighbor to the west.
The building’s repetitive stack of floors has allowed it to rise at a steady pace, but progress will likely slow once construction of the cantilever begins. The upper section will feature tapered floors and rounded corners, culminating in a curved glass crown.
The facade is shown with floor-to-ceiling windows interspersed with metal spandrels, and the pristine east elevation will be clad in reflective panels. The crown will be semi-exposed to the elements.
The closest subways are the B, D, F, M, and 7 trains at the 42nd Street-Bryant Park station.
A revised completion date for 58 West 39th Street has yet to be announced, although somewhere in 2023 is possible.
