Meanwhile, in a boost for the local tourism industry, including Douglas Shire Australian Tourism Export Council (ATEC) chief executive Peter Shelley has confirmed that the Far North will host a high-profile ATEC meeting later this year .

The Cairns Convention Center will host the event from November 21-23 where over 300 tourism industry figures, key figures and notables will gather to discuss all facets of the industry as it continues to rebound from the COVID pandemic.

“We have over 30 new experiences in Cairns and the Great Barrier Reef, including city walks, reef tours, native operators and rainforest experiences,” said Mark Olsen, Managing Director of Tourism Tropical North Queensland, from the Pullman International Hotel.

“Incoming tour operators will be wowed by the transformation of Cairns with the beautiful Esplanade restaurant district, the city’s new hotels and vibrant bar and restaurant scene.

“Having them experience the region first-hand will be integral to rebuilding our key international markets and reclaiming our billion-dollar-a-year export industry for this region.”

A spokesperson for the event confirmed that the ATEC meeting place will run for three days and will feature business-to-business workshops, a conference, programs for buyers to learn about new products and business-building opportunities. relationships.
