IHG Hotels & Resorts has announced leadership appointments for the opening of its newest Australasian property, voco™ Melbourne Central, with over 200 years of combined experience on the leadership team.
voco Melbourne Central Managing Director Erik Stuebe leads the team to launch voco’s first new property in Australia this Thursday 28th April 2022.
Beginning his career in Europe, Mr. Stuebe worked for several hotel groups around the world. He joined voco Melbourne Central in September 2021 after almost six years as General Manager of InterContinental Melbourne The Rialto. Mr. Stuebe is also Area GM for Victoria and Tasmania.
“It’s a dream team with years of experience in all facets of hotel operations,” says Stuebe.
“With the voco Melbourne Central finishes nearing completion, we are incredibly proud of this truly quirky hotel in the heart of Melbourne. Our staff will provide refreshing hospitality to all of our guests, and many of our team members have worked together in previous roles.
The management team includes other award-winning InterContinental Melbourne The Rialto alumni: Christine Bridge, Celeste Clarke, Jackie Liu, Ian Lee and, most recently, front desk manager Hobin Lee.
Christine Bridge is the Director of Sales and Marketing for voco Melbourne Central. His career spans various hotel groups internationally, notably in the UK and South Korea, in sales, events and marketing.
At the hotel’s restaurant, Blacksmith Brasserie, Ian Lee is the new executive chef at voco Melbourne Central. Originally from South Korea, Mr. Lee’s career spans nearly 30 years in luxury hotels around the world. Chef Lee has earned many prestigious accolades over the years, including winning the Global Culinary Competition, the Black Box Culinary Competition Gold Medal, and the Potential of People Award.
Mr Stuebe said that with more than 30 Voco locations around the world, including two in Australia, Melbourne was a natural choice for the group’s flagship property.
“Like Voco, our city dares to be different and is full of style and gems to discover. voco Melbourne Central is synonymous with modern charm and connection. It’s truly inviting with the indulgences of a hotel, and while it has an upscale look, it has a laid-back spirit.
“Our team is looking forward to opening the doors of our hotel to the world this Thursday and welcoming our first guests,” said Stuebe.
