Matild Palace, a Luxury Collection hotel, Budapest won in the “Best Luxury Hotel” and “Best Luxury Room” categories at this year’s Gold Key Awards. The iconic building has undergone a breathtaking transformation over the past 5 years. The interiors were designed by the prestigious MKV Design.

Presented by Boutique Design, the Handing over the golden keys for Excellence in Hospitality Design is the industry’s most prestigious awards program, often referred to as the “Oscars of Hotel Design”. Awarded annually in November in New York, it rewards the most innovative and impressive design of hotel and restaurant projects around the world. In 2021, the Gold Key Awards were held for the 41st time and the winners were honored in 24 categories.

At this year’s gala, Matild Palace was selected as the winner of the “Best Luxury Hotel” and “Best Luxury Deluxe Room” categories.

Located in the beautiful Matild Palace building, the Hungarian luxury hotel in Marriott International’s Luxury Collection portfolio has been awarded the title of ‘Best Hotel in Hungary 2021’ and has been selected as one of the world’s best new hotels by a number of number of prestigious international travel listings. ,

Matild Palace, a Luxury Collection hotel

Built in 1902, Mathilde Palace was developed under the patronage of Her Imperial and Royal Highness Maria Klotild of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha to serve as the social center of the city. It is a monument of Budapest characterized by a “distinctive ambience representative of its Hungarian heritage”.

The palace is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is under monumental protection.

Over the past 5 years, the building has undergone a complete 5-year transformation. World-renowned interior designer Maria Vafiadis and the MKV design The team restored the interiors, reconfigured the floors and converted the building into a Luxury Collection hotel.

The Matild Palace offers an exceptional choice of 130 elegant rooms and suites and a spectacular view of the Danube.

The rooms were inspired by the interests, lifestyle of Princess Marie Clotilde and early 20th century Budapest. Thus, the interior design of the palace has remained true to the unique heritage of the building.

The interior aesthetic of the palace blends notes of Baroque, Romanesque and Art Nouveau, layered with Hungarian craftsmanship of metalwork, embroidery and tile making, celebrating the rich heritage of the historic building, but also offering a whole new and modern destination for international and Hungarian guests.
