Houston hotel restaurants aren’t just a convenience for foreigners anymore; some have won over Houston foodies with their mouth-watering food and drinks. Monarch at ZaZa Museum District Hotel

This chic indoor/outdoor social hub serves up fine American classics and fun cocktails. Every night, you’ll dine with as many Houstonians as travelers — couples who come weekly after spotting art or before theater performances and office mates who meet after work for bites and drinks. at happy hour. Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, the flavors are bright and the scene lively. Speaking of scenery, dine alfresco within sight of the Mecom Fountain and the Houston Museum of Fine Arts. Flavor: Chef Daniel Hatcher’s culinary team caters to the appetites of carnivores, vegans and gluten-free. Savor the Superfoods Bowl filled with tricolor quinoa, avocado, roasted sweet potatoes, jalapeno and lemon-tahini or the Curious Traveler sampler.

Given the pristine, century-old reputation of the artwork-filled Lancaster Hotel, it’s no wonder its restaurant has won die-hard fans for its food and service. Now, a hot new menu and chef has elevated Cultivated F+B among Houston’s top restaurants. Chef Joseph Vinson has revisited the restaurant’s classics; for example, crispy seared salmon is now glazed with avocado and served with mashed sweet potatoes, sautéed shredded Brussels sprouts and mango salsa. There’s also a new brunch in town, served on Saturdays and Sundays. Bananas Foster Waffles, anyone?

Flavor: Seared salmon with Lancaster salad and Mediterranean roasted cauliflower garnished with currants, mint and toasted pine nuts.

Sip: West Texas Sunset, a variant of Ranch Water with a touch of cranberry.

Dessert: Bread pudding—toasted butter croissants followed by brandied dried cherries, fig confit, caramel sauce and fresh cream.

Long-time favorite Quattro has been replaced by chef Richard Sandoval’s Toro Toro Pan-Latin Steakhouse, which showcases the bright flavors of Central and South America. Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, you can share small plates in a cool and stylish setting with a large central stone bar. Hit the Suviche (sushi and ceviche) bar for plates to share. After dinner, toast with inventive cocktails and rare spirits at the brand new speakeasy Bandista.

Flavor: Peruvian Ceviche and Mezcal-flamed Prime Tomahawk 52 oz.

Good restaurants in Houston are a dime a dozen but here you can order gold! The $1,600 24k Black Gold Burger with Japanese wagyu beef, black truffle and truffle aioli on a caviar-infused bun covered in 24k gold and served with 24k gold fries carats and a bottle of Dom Pérignon.

The Main Kitchen’s cuisine is American with an international twist, served in a setting of floor-to-ceiling windows. Associated with the 806 lounge, it is popular for business meetings, casual celebrations and brunches. The cocktail list includes premium spirits selected from around the world by Scottish native Andrew Gallacher. Chef Rafael Gonzalez draws on his menu-creating experiences around the world.

Flavor: Buffalo cauliflower topped with jalapeno ranch and carrot jicama salad. Or the MK Burger, with Texan ingredients.

Sip: Fifty 9, with H-Town’s Avonak Fifty 9 gin, petals, lemon and strawberries, topped with a Mediterranean citrus tonic and served in an Instagramable G&T balloon glass.

Dessert: King’s Cheesecake “Houston Style” – a Texas-sized confection with a graham cracker crust, Amarena cherries and homemade whipped cream topped with gold dust.

Master chef Chris Cosentino named this friendly upscale Houston Italian restaurant after his great-grandmother. She taught him the secrets of old-world Italian traditions, which he now interprets with local Houston ingredients. Mid-century decor includes retro TVs, records, cookbooks, and rose-embroidered banquettes. The intimate Rosalie canopy is adorned with greenery.

Flavor: Fresh rigatoni with Texas wild boar stew and wild mushroom pizza.

Sip: Jessica Rabbit—Tequila Cuervo Tradicional Blanco, sour cherry molasses, ginger and lime.

Dessert: Creamy old-fashioned soft cream with chocolate, olive oil and Maldon salt and a swirl of vanilla seasonal fruits.
