A 4-year-old girl was found dead next to her unconscious mother at a hotel in Osceola County, Florida.
ClickOrlando.com reports that police responded to a request for a welfare check Monday at the Star Island Resort & Club near Celebration. A woman had contacted the police because she was concerned about her adult daughter, who had not shown up for work where she and her mother both worked, and who was going through an unspecified crisis.
Responders reportedly found the woman and her daughter on a bed in the hotel room. The 4-year-old girl has been pronounced dead and the woman, identified as Jacinda Decaro, has been taken to hospital where she remains in critical condition. According to WFTV, the door to the hotel suite was locked and shackled from the inside when police arrived.
Investigators would suspect the incident was an attempted murder-suicide, as Jacinda Decaro left a note in the room that read “I’m sorry.”
The deceased girl has been identified as Masiela Decaro. Osceola County Sheriff Marcos Lopez told WFTV it was too early in the investigation to determine how the girl died, they believe her mother may have used pills or some other form of drugs in the alleged murder-suicide attempt.
“There wasn’t any blunt trauma – maybe she put some type of medication together,” Lopez said.
Jacindo Decaro had only a weak pulse when the police arrived, and authorities are unsure if she will survive.
